Committe Spotlight: EducaCie
The EducaCie (Educational Committee) is up next! Answers were given by Marloes ten Hage, she's this year's chairperson of the committee.
What is the name of your committee and give a short description.
We are the EducaCie, we try to be the listening ear for every student, and teacher, involved in the studies that are under Proto’s care (Creative Technology and Interaction Technology) and try to solve problems within the Module before they get out of hand. For example, we make sure that there are practice exams for each of the subjects within a Module.
What is the main thing you do as a committee?
During every weekly meeting we mostly discuss what has happened in the past week and find a solution for problems if necessary. We also organize studynights, which you might have noticed the past week, and try to organize other study related activities like the pre-mastermarket that is coming up.
The committee has a few different tasks so to say, what is the part you enjoy the most or are the most proud of?
That we, as committee, are very good at taking a step back and look at all the problems with a little bit of perspective. We always try to see why things are the way they are. Our meetings are not just an hour of complaining about all the subjects or teachers, but we really try to solve problems which can be quite challenging sometimes.
Dealing with the educational program can be difficult, what was the most difficult thing you had to solve or was the trickiest to solve?
I think one of the most recent things that was tricky to solve was that a teacher in the first Module did not speak English that well. It is something that we as a committee cannot solve on our own but we did make sure that the right people knew about it. Also we try to give the first year students our support when they want to complain. To make them feel like someone is listening.
How many participants were at the most successful studynight?
The most successful study night that I know of was the programming study night in the first Module, 2 years ago, where around 60 people showed up.
You're looking for a few new members, what would you tell anyone who could be interested?
If you want to have an impact on the study, or if you want to know a little bit more about why things are the way they are within the educational programs that fall under Proto, then join us. We're looking for first and third year CreaTe students and a handfull of I-Tech students to share their feedback. If you're interested you can email the committee itself, contact me (Marloes) or the board responsible (Daniela van Meggelen).
Finally, do you have a nice anecdote or fact about the committee?
We are also called the KaasCie, which is a play on words on the “caCie” part of the committee name. Literally translated it would mean CheeseCie.
Lastly, if you ever want to tell us something but rather do it anonymously you can send us an anonymous email using this link.
